Explore Your Creative Side at a Workshop on Solitude, Nature, and Art at Spokane’s Riverside Park on Sunday, April 26

I’ll be leading an unusual writing workshop in Spokane this Sunday called “Solitude, Nature, and Art: Deepen Your Awareness and Creativity.” The workshop is free and runs from 2 to 4 p.m.

Although intended primarily for writers, the workshop will explore ways to deepen your creative pursuits no matter what kind of artist you are. Focusing on the need for solitude to reach the deepest levels of one’s artistic self, I’ll be leading participants through a number of exercises intended to increase stillness, awareness, avoidance of distractions, and access to a more authentic interior space.

The workshop will take place at Riverside Park, just outside Spokane, where we’ll use proximity to nature to open up more dimensions of our selves and our artistic practice. Participants don’t need to bring anything except a pen and paper and an open spirit.

You can read more about the workshop, my teaching, and my artistic pursuits in this article from the Spokane Spokesman-Review: “Workshop Teaches Artists to Use Solitude, Nature in Their Creative Practice” (April 20, 2026)

And here’s a short pre-workshop interview I did with Spokane Library Writing Education Specialist Sharma Shields, talking about the relationship between solitude and art-making: “A Truer, Deeper Voice: Solitude, Nature, and Art with Michael N. McGregor.”

If you live in the area, I hope to see you there!
